EGR Valve delete question.
 

Hi,
I have a bmw e53 x5 diesel turbo automatic.

My question is, if i place a blanking plate on the exhaust manifold and remove the EGR pipe that goes to the EGR Valve.



1) Do i need to replace the EGR valve with a delete kit or can i blank where the exhaust gas entered the valve?


2) The vacuum pipe that goes to the EGR Valve, do i leave that plugged in or do i remove the pipe and block it with something?


3)Do i leave the EGR presure converter intact or if i unplug it will it show an error code?

What age E53 3.0d are we talking about, M57 or M57N?

So yesterday I removed the intake manifold to replace the glow plugs and the glow plug controller.


Once the Intake manifold was removed i noticed that the small pipes from the presure controller were damaged and brittle.


The small pipe that goes to the vacuum line was replaced and the pipe that goes to the EGR (which was ot damaged) was left as it is.


The car started fine with no issues and drove smoothly.


The issue is when i try to accelerate. It is so slow and does not get me anywhere fast.


I have checked the intake manifold and i cannot hear any hissing noises to indicate air leaks etc. There are no error messages on the dash etc.

Check that you still have vacuum at the reservoir tank and the pressure converter controlling the turbo (boost control).

That part of the car was untouched and working fine before the work i carried out.

But, i will check that now anyways.


Like i said above i have removed the Gas recirculation pipe and blanked off the entry point on the EGR.

Do i need block the pipe coming in to the EGR Valve from the vacuum solenoid?

UPDATE
 

I had a look at why i was loosing power and the acceleration was poor.


It turned out when i reinstalled the intake manifold i trapped a vacuum pipe between the intake manifold and the engine head.


This vacuum pipe goes to the vacuum container that links to the turbo.


So, the issue was resolved easily.

Re. plugging the EGR actuator vacuum port, there's no need to plug the port on the actuator, after removing the hose, but DO plug the hose that was on it!.

I don't think you need to plug the exhaust gas inlet on the EGR unit either, as with no vacuum, the EGR actuator will close off this inlet from the intake tract.

You could consider replacing the EGR unit entirely, for slightly better intake flow.
