Getting another old X5...

Current daily is a 2003 3.0 with 218k miles. A rock solid loyal car which I plan to keep grinding. I just found and bought a 2006 3.0 with <80k miles on it and in super clean condition inside and out. Drove it and everything felt right and tight. Getting title and plates tomorrow. I'm sure there will be a few things to tackle, but I've maintained my other one myself for 20 years, so hopefully it's just a bit more of the same. I'm still looking for a 3.0 Z3, one day!

That 06 is in good hands!
Bottom line is...(believe it or not) each car has its own personality. And you are well prepared to know and identify the traits, idiosyncrasies and characteristics of that model and line.
Id read up on the manufacturer's improvements for that year model.

Nice work…doubling down on the e53! The Z3 is a blast too, you’ll enjoy it for sure. We had one a long, long time ago, before kids.

Congrats on that '06 purchase! ;) I know you guys have a different market than here but can I ask how you came across that ?? I've been looking for probably almost 10 years for something like that but ended up buying an auction special E70.

With 2 E53’s you’ll have plenty to do…particularly in the northeast.

I like my current ‘05 E53 3.0,, but I didn’t like owning two at the same time…too much maintenance and repair

Brake lines,
Ignition switches
Parasitic draws,
Coolant pipes
Oil filter housing gaskets
Frozen door locks,
Door actuators,

On and a on..

Wow that's awesome! I'd love to replace my 211k e53 with a super low mileage one like that!

Sounds like a great find, also curious how you found it. I decided to go ahead and reshell my E36 as I found a super clean similar one in from california. These California cars are really weird underneath. It's a perfect swap candidate. I kind of like to do the same with the X5. Find a really clean shell and take the best out of both cars. 80k miles sounds fantastic.

Today I found out the rear hatch shocks are failing, only when it's cold, and knocked my head pretty good , so add that to the Northeast list.

I think we all agree these are really good and worth maintaining/driving 25 years later. Best 7K I've spent on a car.

Thanks for the cool replies. Found it on Marketplace and the people were normal and nice. Good communicators. Ingot the plates today. Yeah, I'm sure there will be several issues and I'll have to drive it and shake them out. It's a 1 owner with solid records. Price was extremely fair IMO. I know the brake lines were replaced at the dealer. The little arm rests on all 4 doors are pulling up a bit, not an issue on my 03. AC compressor is new, large sunroof is new. I think there is a battery draw, but I'm not afraid of electrical. I've done so much on my current X5 with my Bentley manual and YouTube, I hope I'm not over confident, but the car drove like new. How can I got wrong at this price. Headliner coming off a little, but not like mine, lol. Anyway - I love this model. I love the radio too!!! Full blast. I'll update along the way as I shake it down. Huge thanks to x outpost, been a trusted source forever.

I tried to upload some photos, but seems like so many restrictions on here.

Sweet find. I was specifically looking for a 06 for my E53. A little more miles than I wanted but it was a good one to save. Mechanically its sound after three years. Almost 24k miles since purchase and going strong. I think the first owner was meticulous on dealer maintenance. The previous owner just couldn't keep up with repairs.

Good luck with it. We'll be waiting for pictures.
