Anyway to turn off DRL's while parked?

Have the DRL's active on my 06 X5, but find it strange that there is no way to sit with the engine running without them on. Every other car I've used with DRL's, turn off when you pull the parking brake, the X does not. I like the DRL's for safety, but not being able to sit with all lights off and engine on is stupid.

Mine are off permanently as I'm not a big fan of DRLs - I really question the safety value of them as well, but I know some folks just like the looks of them being on during the day. Other than having the dealer turn them off permanently, I'm not sure there's much you can do.

I agree.

this may be stupid but DRL = Day time running Lights right?

if so cant you just use the light switch to turn from auto to off ?

If you turn the switch to off at night the daytime running lights come on. They are on as long as the headlights aren't. It is hard for me to believe BMW made it so the DRL's can't be deactivated temporarily.

That is 2 things I'm probably going to have turned off at my first scheduled maint visit. The auto door locks not unlocking once you turn the car off is infuriating as well.

BMW auto door lock system will lock the doors after you drive a certain MPH...I think at least 10-13 mph, the doors will lock. However, the BMW auto door lock system WILL NOT unlock the doors. It was never designed that way.

However, just to let you know, there is a square button next to the Hazard button on the center console....one push of the square button will unlock all the doors.;)

Yeah, I know it well. Not very convenient after you step out of the car and realize that you need to open another door. Now you have to dig for your key or reopen the front door, lean in, and push that stupid button that is not even on the door, but in the middle of the f*cking car.

The car can unlock all the doors after a crash, how about after taking the key out of the ignition? I don't think that is too much to ask. With all the cool things German engineers can do, they certainly make some things irritatingly stupid. See original subject of the thread.

Yes, German logic is hard to decipher. However, your DRLs will always be on when the key is in position "2". The DRLs will go off when you turn on your headlights as you already know.

BMW did not design the DRLs to go off with the parking brakes. Sorry. However, enjoy your X5 for what it is which is a very capable SUV in terms of ride, handling, braking and acceleration!
