Tool for removing rear control arm bush
 

I'm replacing the rear suspension components and I'm wondering what type of press people use to remove the bushing from the rear control arm/trailing arm?

I'm keen to buy something to make the job easier off AliExpress.

There is a thread about this somewhere. I think some people have not been impressed with the cheaper tool. It's a close fit and a fair bit of force is needed.

It works (barely) but it does NOT include the required foul language...

I have no rust over here, so that might be why it worked for me.

Are you talking about the rear ball joint ? The kit above doesn't show that part and the kit arms have all the bushings pre installed.

I bought a ball joint press from amazon it worked ok. I smashed the thrust bearing using the tool to push some other bushing i think front tension strut but found reasonable replacement. Make sure the reviewers say it worked on your model X.

So you are talking about what some people refer as rose bush?

That's the one in describing. That def takes a special tool.

Lubricate thrust bearings and screw. Should work ok. Maybe get some oilite bushings in case the bearings self destruct.

That bolt can prob achieve twenty tons of force.

The ball/rose joints are in that Trodo image - just hard to spot. ;)

I've got one of those presses. I've done mine twice over the last 10 years and I found that I had to grind a section of the tool away so it would sit square on the rose joints or it wouldn't press them in straight.

That's very common on the cheaper units. The trick is to look at reviews to confirm works with your exact chassis number.

The job does look like a PITA.

Job wasn't terrible. If you have an angle grinder to fine tune the cup of the tool nothing to worry about. Would be good to have some thrust bushing in case the bearing self destructs

I replaced the rose ball joint with a ebay tool set. It worked. The tool is bent now. Second ball joint was tough getting out.

It's not that bad. The PITA is changing the swing arm bushings. I've done it twice. Once I took the swing arms to a machine shop and had them pressed out and new in. Second time I bought a special tool and did it myself. That was a real PITA an it was cheaper having the machine shop do it than the tool.
