oh dear getting a tad lost here, seems best best is stick to the bmw LL-01 rating for my 2004 m57n diesel, failing seeing this rating on 'tin' make sure it is at least ACEA A3.B3 OR A3.B4? and do this rather than go for bmw LL-04?

When you lock the door with the remote the doors are "double locked" and both inside and outside handles are disabled.

Try when sitting in the car or with the window down. You cannot open the car door from inside when locked from outside.

There are two motors one that performs the primary lock that is for example engaged when you press the central lock button while you are inside and second that disables the connection from the inner door handle.

I forgot the official term BMW uses for the secondary lock but most people call it double locked.

You say you manually lock after setting the alarm.

You can do in one step by just using the key to lock all the doors vs. bothering to press the remote lock button first.

sorry , I mean I press the central button on fob to lock car and this enables the alarm (of course the drivers side wont lock), and to actually lock the drivers door I have to physically turn key in cylinder, you got me a bit worried now about primary and secondary motor and not being able to get in out...

Yup i knew what you meant. I don't think the secondary lock will function if the primary lock fails i can't remember if they are sequential.

The button on the center console is called the central lock button. When you lock from inside the car that does not double lock that's why your can open the doors from inside.

You can just lock the driver door with the key blade and skip the remote button it should lock all the doors and set the alarm in one step.

What I'm saying about door getting struck is still valid. If the double lock motor fails while locked you can't open the door. Most often you'll get one more chance but i recommend fixing the DLA sooner than later in case both motors are dying. It's very tricky to get the door card out and Jimmy the double lock open with the door shut.

What may be confusing you is the assumption that the 04 after LL means it's an improved evolution over LL01, but its not.

LL01 and LL04 are distinct from each other.

If your car calls for LL01, I'd go with that. In very simplistic terms LL04 is "watered down" to protect emissions equipment.

okays clear, but let me get this straight the motor primary and secondary you refer to is per door? or just located on the drivers side that initiates the open close of all doors? anyway yes you right can use the keyblade to lock and this initiates alarm, but have to remember to unlock with it too cos using the remote fob I think sets alarm off

All doors have the double lock feature. If you sit in the car and use key fob to lock then unlock the doors, you might be able to hear the double lock motors since your driver door isn't locking.

I'll see if i can find the video i took testing the motors before i reinstalled the DLA.

The key blade will disable the alarm by default. It's possible to code it either way so I'd do a test where the alarm won't wake up the neighbors just in case.
