thoughts about Kirkland motor oil

Has anyone used the Kirkland motor oil in the 6 cylinders?
Any thoughts on that?

For some reason, all manufacturers have now switched to a 4.7 litre containers, and that messes up my calculations lol. 3 containers used to give me 2 oil changes, no longer works with the 4.7 litres. Damn it, inflation.

I've never used it. It must be made by an oil manufacturer that makes other oils. What are the ratings on it? Search YouTube for Kirkland oil. I'm sure there are users that give their opinion or experience on it. Sam's sells Mobile1. I use it for my other vehicles. Heck, it might be the same synthetic oil just labeled differently.

I've used it with no problems. Then again I am a "motor oil is motor oil" kind of guy on our high mileage M54-equipped BMW....I have 4 of them.

Never used it (don't have a Costco near me), but Kirkland motor oil is made by Warren Distribution, who also makes Walmart SuperTech and Amazon Basics motor oil.

My engine builder friend would use SuperTech for cars he was working on for other people (but Royal Purple for his engines and racing associates), and I know he wouldn't have used SuperTech unless it was good.

I have used Amazon Basics motor oil on my cars and trucks, and it was good. Though I use Castrol Edge Euro 5w-40 on my X5, Mobil 1 High-Mileage 5w-30 on two other vehicles, I have Amazon Basics 5w-30 High-Mileage in my '04 Chevy Silverado 2500HD truck, at this time. I trust it to be as good as the others.

I remember 10-15 years ago, people on this forum would discuss things like what was the absolute best brand for a water pump or how they store their X5 in the winter to keep it away from salt. Now, these poor X5's have reached the type of owners who want to use cheap engine oil and ask questions about how to get away with the bare minimum to maintain the car lol.

It looks to be a more domestic motor- oriented oil with the specs it is designed to meet.

I'd look for something more euro - oriented.

The discussion is not cheap oil etc

It is a scientific question: is Kirkland as good as "Euro" oil or Castrol Edge?
I have used all kinds of oil, Kirkland, Napa Synthetic, Castrol 5W40 etc etc over some 20 years.
You will soon find out there is no difference.

The most important part is not the oil, it is the interval...I stick to 5K ---> 7.5K mile interval.

Right now, I am using Castrol Edge 5W40 bc the name sounds "sexy" lol...
And Castrol 5W40 is at $26 or so, roughly > $5/qt vs Kirkland at $3.70/qt.
Kirkland stops at 5W30, they don't have 5W40.

Which is why I don't use it, mostly because 5W40 is what the prior owner put in it... at 203450mi or so does it really matter? It barely consumes any and does not smoke. He was changing it every 3,000mi but I'm doing it at 5,000mi because 3,000 seemed excessive. Maybe next time I'll try it.

Look up The Motor Oil Geek on youtube. He tested a bunch of oils on a dyno and the Supertech actually beat out the Napa Gold. He's legit with a degree. The results were: "There are only a couple of oil manufacturers out there. If you aren't racing, they all are fine."
