2003 e53 3.0d belt tensioner upgrade to later type
 

Hi
Is it possible to change the old type tensioner for the later type.
I have the old type which goes through the front engine case
into a spring thingy.

Not sure this was ever changed on the M57 engines... some of the petrol engines use a different type but they won’t fit.

Replacing these is easy and usually only the pulley needs replacing, not the entire unit.

If you refer the newer type as the hydraulic tensioner, it was never used on these diesel engines.
