Steering Rack Exploded Diagram?

I'll be dropping the subframe on my '03 to change the oil pan gasket, and will take the opportunity to 'refresh' other systems while I have good access to them. One is the steering rack. I was going to just purchase a rebuilt Bosch unit, as it's the only brand I might trust, but they are out of stock everywhere I've looked. I could get one from overseas, but would then have to eat the core. I have found a rebuild kit, but I haven't seen any documentation on these assemblies and am hesitant to disassemble one of these without any reference information. I have found a YT video on rebuilding a rack on an E46 by 50s Kid, but I'm not sure how similar it is to the E53 models. Any thoughts?

Grab a Bentley manual. Best paper purchase for my X5. I found one locally on Craigslist!

I had my oil pan gasket done a few years go. New front shafts were installed. New oil pan shaft seals. Links, bushings, and new struts, strut bearings, and a good undercarriage clean. The crank and block had a lot of sludge built up. All of it was cleaned off. Previous owners sure did to the max oil life. I swear the engine runs cooler after removing all the sludge. I'll dig up my post for pictures.

Thank you for your reply. I have the Bentley manual for this, and an old Mercedes we have as well. Their electrical schematics are pretty good, but they're pretty light on mechanical work. The book for the E53 doesn't have any information about the rack itself. If I recall correctly they only mention removing and replacing it.

I would also be interested in knowing who could rebuild the steering rack in these E53's. It seems like there aren't a lot of good options.

It's from an E60 thread but should be similar to the ZF rack in the E53?

What is DOES tell us is that such diagrams (and parts listings) exist... ;)
