Door Closure Question
 

After a relatively long period of reliability, it seems my X5 wants me to be a bit more involved in its maintenance...

The driver's door has become balky. It operates just fine from the interior door handle. The exterior door handle when first engaged does nothing; if I push the door more firmly against its stops, the exterior handle will now work. It does this now every time.

Knowing that these issues only proceed one way, I have it parked in the garage with the door open, window glass fully up and the battery disconnected in preparation for the next steps.

My question is this: What is the culprit here- A stretched actuator cable? The door handle carrier is apparently intact.

Sounds like door handle carrier. Normally the metal around the axle breaks the first symptoms are it won't open unless you tug quickly and i suspect you just came up with a kinder softer version of tug quickly.

If you leave door open for extended period, put the interior lights into service mode by holding the dome light button for ≈ 5 second until they go out and they will stay off until you press the button again.

The dhc may have only cracked and didn't come apart yet would make for a relativity easy fix.

I noticed mine only opened with fast tug to open that lasted a week or More before it wouldn't open. Find my awr-fix thread on dhc zip tie fix. If yours spilt not didn't break apart might be the easiest fix ever!
