Introduction and question.

Hi,

Just got a 2003 x5 4.4. and love it. Already planning a ipod and bluetooth upgrade as described here.

The X5 has 66K miles and from reading the posts a extended warranty is a good idea. I can't get a bmw warranty as I am outside the 50K miles.

The dealer has recommended a company called 'Western General' for about 2200 for 24 months /24K miles but I am having problems finding any information online. Does anyone have any particular experience with this policy or recommend another.

Thanks for any input or advice.

Gary

:xoutpost: I can't help you with the warranty question since I bought Warranty Direct, but good luck.

:welcome: That sounds a little high for 24/24. Before I bought my BMW warranty I tried Warranty Direct. You should be able to get something that extends your coverage to 100K miles for that price. No idea whether they are a good company to go with but others here have gone with them.

Good luck!

tried that

I just contact warranty direct and they said they cannot cover me. They only extend warranties under 50K in california.

I also contacted my local BMW dealer who recommended a policy they sell, from 'Universal'.

24/24 = $2800
36/36 = $3800

This ones a bit more but they say its 'comprehensive' and cover must the same as the BMW extended warranty.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi Gary...

Easy lookup on web for WestGen., though it doesn't tell much:
http://www.westerngeneral.com/aboutwg.htm

Your local Stlr got a "deal" from them, so they are humping it; the coverage might or might not be good. YMMV...

Try Warranty Direct; it appears they now offer coverage for higher mileage and out of warr., cars...worth a try:

Also, Use Search Tab on this site: topic has been beaten to pulp.

sorry to say

Sorry to say I rang Warranty Direct and they categorically said that they will no cover the X5 outside of the 50K manufacturers warranty.

I used the search and got lots of useful information. I was looking for some real world experience of Western General...

Actually, WD offers it up to 60K, but they add a surcharge.

From my ext warr search of a few months ago, I do not recall any "regular" companies offering up an ext warr at 66K or, well beyond the oem warr. mileage expiration.

Imo, if your stlr will sell you one from WestGen or Walmart, I'd go for it...yes, it's an expesive term insurance thing, but these babies are a grand for a "look-see" when something goes kaput.
