self level suspension system inact

my 2001 x5 4.4 has just started to flash the message self level suspension system inactive.does anybody know if there is a quick fix or is it a visit to the dealer. does anybody know if there is a common cause?

just had to take my 05 4.8 to the dealer....they had to order a part for mine...but def take it to your dealer...its not safe

my battery ran right down on the same day as it happened and i just read a thread that said it hapened to them when there battery ran down low.
