X5 3.0 tight steering
Hello Gentleman,
I am following xoutpost.com for last couple of months . What a great site .Thanks to everyone . I got a new 2005 x5 in september . Great truck . I only have one complaint , steering wheel . I feel steering wheel is very tight . I took it to bmw and they said this is normal . Is this normal ? If yes , is there any way i can replace mine with a better steering wheel. I saw articles to replace with M-wheel , does that help . What are the advantages with M-wheel or any other wheel . Thanks in advance Vick ... |
When you say tight, you mean difficult to turn right? That's the steering ratio, and it's that way for a very specific reason. While it may seem difficult to turn at times, you will always feel the second you loose even the slightest bit of traction. It's all part of you feeling and understanding the road and how you're moving over it. Welcome to the world of BMW!

Hey , thank you very much , but i drove a 5-series , i got that as a loaner , it felt much better , very smooth and not as tight as X5 3.0

That's what my wife complaint about at first drive with the X5. That's not the only complaint though, she also complaint about the pedal sensitivity, and heavy doors whip ass. I finally change the steering fluid to Synthetic ATF Mobil 1. It's much smoother when turn, but it's still heavy at stationary turn. I thought the front wheel tires is a big factor since it's much wider that normal one

I thought brand new BMW comes with Synthetic ATF Mobil 1 steering fluid . What does BMW comes with ! I guess Synthetic is mandatory for BMWs .
