X5 335

Probably old news to all you guys (I haven't checked in for a couple of weeks), but while at my dealer today I noticed that a copy of UK Autocar magazine had a piece on a new X6 (a coupe/SUV?) but also had a small column on the fact that the new X5 will come in a 335 version - turbocharged 3 litre engine with (as I have now seen in this forum) 330bhp on tap. "Making do" in a country where anything above 3 litres gets taxed to hell, the turbocharged version will make a lot of sense - having a 330 (3 series) already, it's tough driving the underpowered 3.0i X5.

The 3er turbo will be interesting. Too bad the E90 is so bad/blah looking. As far as the 3.0 X5 being underpowered, more power is always good but the 3.0 is not underpowered for most people's use. If you don't tow anything, the 3.0 is very swift. If we could all have it we'd sure love the LeMans V12 X5 wouldn't we? That thing is insane.

I bet actually they will introduce the 335 X5 with the new X5 redesign. Seems useless to adapt a whole new engine to the currently aging and soon to be replaced X5 platform.

Should have made that clear - the turbo 3.0 engine IS only for the new X5.

So there will be an X3, and X5, and an X6 in 2007-2008? There will be a 3 liter normally aspirated motor, a turbo 3 liter, and a 3 liter diesel for the X3 and X5? The X5 will also have a choice of the larger V-8, but the HP will be at the same level of the c/m/y 4.8is? Will the current 4.8is be "stepped up" with a stronger motor? And, am I correct in understanding that the X6 will just be offered in a 4.4 to 5 liter version? And we Americanos may or may not get the oil burner version, depending on whether or not we totally piss off OPEC going forward? All yesses so far? My head spins.

Just a point, I used my 3.0D yesterday to pull one of our company 2 tonne vans out that was bogged down in wet grass/mud and it was amazing. It did it effortlessly and the car delivered power exactly as I asked for it.
