Windshield question
on my way to work a rock or something caused a nasty gouge in my windshield (looks like a bullet hole) . i obviously want to replace it w/bmw glass (possibly the comfort glass). do i go through the dealer for this? has anyone had an issue with their insurance company over type of glass?
sorry if this has already been covered in another thread... thanks! |

Good luck, Greg p.s. As far as BMW glass goes, get it. Whether or not your Ins. Co. will cover it really depends on which Ins. Co. you have. Too many variables to answer that question. |
I remember reading something about "Comfort Glass" interfering with radar/laser detection equipment. Something to keep in mind.

Agree with SG. The dealers I've done business with all outsource the windshield replacement jobs. When I replaced the windshield on my 5 series, the installer gave me a choice of the BMW factory glass for ~$550 or the same (minus the BMW logo) windshield from the company that makes the factory unit for ~$300. I wasn't filing an insurance claim either way as we have a $500 deductible. However, the installer also said that some insurance companies insist on BMW glass. No way to know until you make the call.

CG will also interfere with electronic toll transponders.

thanks for all the help!

If you have a nick/crack less than the size of a silver dollar, you might want to consider getting it filled and fused instead of a total windshield replacement. Costs about $75.
