Boot problem - Anyone else have this problem??

Hi, just wondering if this is a common problem or if there is something wrong with my vehicle only.

I have a 2005 X5 3.0d Sport. I open the boot via the switch in the centre console and the boot unlatches electronically no problem at all. I then get out of the car, close the door and the boot latches itself closed again.

I have tested this with all doors - the closing of a door causes a shock wave through the car which then makes the boot lock latch close again.

Is this a design fault???

Many thanks,

Dave

Its common among ALL X5's. Just close the door gently and the air pressure won't lift the lid enough for gravity to re-latch it.

Exactly. Because the hatch has electronic release and electronic closing, shutting the door can cause it to re-latch.

Thanks for your replies. Sounds like a bit of a design fault to me - the latching is too sensitive. I don't close the doors to violently. Even an easy close causes the boot to latch.

I'm gonna get in touch with BMW GB and see what they say - as this is not fit for purpose.

Dave

We have had this discussion before (Michelle didn't think too highly of it either) - It's just a safety feature - the only time I use the interior switch is if someone is waiting for me to unlock it - otherwise, I use my key

Mine did that..i figured it out how to fix it - when you release the trunk via the button on the center console, unlock all the doors by pressing the unlock button on the console...this will allow you to get out of the car and shut the door and go to the hatch and it will be able to open...

Thanks for all your responses. I phoned BMW GB yesterday, who were far from helpful - they recommend that I close the doors less violently. Hey, I drive a big mans car, now I have to act like a fairy when I get out!!

Never mind. The car is still the best thing I have ever had - changed from an M3 convertible for this. Was def the right thing to do - my kids can now sit in the back

Regards,

Dave
