Used X5 4.4 question
I'm new to the forum and i'm in the market to buy a used 4.4 X5. Can anyone give me some pointers on what to look for. I have owned several vehicles and I know that once you own one you know all the ins and outs. I am for sure getting a sport package. But, what about mileage? At what point should I say that's to much? What about Nav? Should I want or not want it? I've noticed that there are some options on the members that I'm not aware of like cold weather package. How about the years 2000-2003. Are there any major improvements that I should know about. Is it worth spending a little more to get say an 03'? Any help would be appreciated. I will be doing this real soon and don't want to be unhappy with the purchase. Thanks

Whatever you choose, if possible, get a Certified Pre Owned vehicle from BMW with their extended warranty. This will give you coverage against any unforseen problems. I bought a 01' 4.4 CPO, with every option and havn't had to use the warranty yet. I'm with you, I love the look and feel of the sport package. NAV is usefull and fun for me. This is a great web site! Enjoy.

def agree with you on the sport package, make sure you get xenon lights since apparently thats an option on the pre-2004 models. i have the nav its nice but the dvd one is better than the cd one, as for the cold weather its simply the rear sunshades and heated seats. i have an 02 CPO and have used the warranty enough times to drive me crazy but at least i'm not paying for it.

Thanks for the info. What about miles. Where should I draw the line?

The normal driving average is 15k/year. Lower the better but there are members on the board that have over 100k on their X's.

From what I hear 2002 is the way to go. Most gliches have been corrected from the previous x5's. One with 40,000 miles expect to pay 30,000 for one with sport package. Private owners are a good way to go, they take good care of their vehicles.

What kind of glitches do the 01's have?

RC51:
-Sport pkg is my pick, but you might drive one first, (either 3.0 or 4.4), and see if the firmer ride is your desire. -The NAV guys love NAV; I don't have it and don't miss it. Your pick. Watch for Nav without CD changer, unless you are still a cassette tape fan, lol! -Cold weather pkg is good, I have it, but not sure you would need it in SD and lack of, should not be a deal breaker on the southern Left Coast, imo. -'03 "should be" slightly better than '02 and, lower miles is better. -A "CPO" car from a stlr is usually a tad more dough, but you do not want one of these beasts without a warr. safety net of some kind....an '03 may get you in the Warr window from a dlr or non-dlr: make sure the car is still in warr. or CPO'd. If still in Warr., then you get could an ext warr. as the warr. expiration time draws near. I would avoid eScam cars, but that's jes'me. The 4.4 gang here should have some more ideas, as my view is from my lil' 3.0 and I don't know all the goodies on the Vfookin8! RC51: fineazz sled, too! I've ridden a buddy's a few times...too quick for this ol'M'cycler! GL,md |

heated seats were burning through the leather. Leveling sensor goes bad on the sport package. door regulators not working. look on google for recalled parts. Check reviews also.
