Gutted - Broken my X

Guys
I'm gutted. First bit of snow and I couldn't stop my X. And before you say it, I was going really slow (but obviously not slow enough). Coming down the bank, not more than 200m or so from my home and the X was just sliding. The ABS didn't help slow it or help steer. Infact we seemed to be increasing in speed - until the bus shelter that is.

Main thing is - no one hurt. Hope the body shop guys do a good job. Worried about the front steering though as it took a bit of a wallop on the curb.

That sucks. Black ice ?
Hope surgery will be performed soon.
Glad you are OK.

Cheers,

Lucky there were no kids waiting at the bus stop.

I nearly lost mine the other day on ice - do you think us X5 drivers have a false sense of security?

Hope all is OK. Glad to hear you were not hurt. Keep smiling, the BMW dealers will fix it like new.

Sorry to hear that your x is sick, luckily everyone is ok.

Black ice is the scariest thing you can find on the road.

maybe you know this already but when your ABS is not stopping your x5 try over steering to the direction where you want to go and hit the gas, the x will try to maneuver toward that direction, it works nice, it has saved me from hitting a park car one time when turning a corner.

What tyres are you running? My X was truly scary in snow and ice, until I fitted Dunlop Wintersport M3's. With the winter tyres, it now goes anywhere without incident.

Sobering...I'll bet the tires were just warm enough to melt the snow and that set things in motion...you'll have new sheetmetal soon and Spring is ariving soon. Glad nobody was hurt.

I think SUV drivers in general have a false sense of security. Although, I must say I do not see as much in my fellow X drivers. Just because you can go, does not mean you can stop. :tsk: See it every storm. They yahoo down the road, up your ass, flying past you in the not yet plowed left lane :banghead: and around the bend, there they are, sratching their heads while upside down in a ditch. :loco:

Sorry to hear about your baby.:tsk: She'll be as good as new. Glad no one was hurt.

You obviously need winter tires. I almost slid off the road when I first bought my X with the 19" sport pkg wheels! Gave me a good scare...I went and bought winter tires the next day, and holy smokes what a difference! Check out the pics I posted under X5 in the snow. I could never dream of doing that with anything other than winter tires. :)
