Is it Safe to Jack on the Rear Diffy ?
 

What's a safe spot to jack the rear up ?

I'm not talking factory jack points on the sides but from the rear itself.
While it's common to jack it via the rear diffy....I recall reading a blurb somewhere that stated that it's not good to jack up via the rear diffy.

Chef: Yes, but I like to do it on the susp. arm/pivot point just left or right of the rear diff...in the link below, look down to the pic of the floor jack under the rear diff: I put a small square of plywood on the floor jack "pad" and lift under the susp. arm pivot just next to diff.

I suspect either way is fine: stability is the key, (jack stands rec'd if you even think about getting underneath), and slow and careful is the key.

PS: chock the front tars...it's a high lift to pull wheels off rear.

While there are aluminum cooling fins on the rear diff that may well be fragile, it is possible to jack from the steel portion of the diff (painted black) just forward of the cooling fins.

I used the rear diff and the front center point as recommended by this article when I changed brake pads this weekend, and they both worked fine. I used the lower pivot points--again described in the link above--to place my jack stands.
