NOC 03-06-2006 09:46 AM

How much do they run for at the dealer??
I am interested as well as I am adding the 4.6 kit to my 3.0

ekaz 03-06-2006 10:12 AM

The price from the dealer for that is just under $1,000. I'd be interested if there is somewhere to get it cheaper.

:damn: that is too much for it, although it looks good still $500 would be a fair price for it..

WMG/BMW 03-06-2006 10:34 AM

I wonder if this could be fabricated from a welder for 1/2 the price, and dipped in chrome just would need the a CAD drawing of the guard.

I talked to two welders that would do it, also available in Stainless Steel, Red, Blue, Titanium, etc etc you supply the paint. Found a Chrome place would dip it (triple dip) for about 100. Welders are talking 250~350 depending on material.
-or-
Maybe China can make them for 250..... They already make Repo Bimmer rims for $800why not the guard. Writing an email to China now, have some contacts there from work.

NOC 03-06-2006 10:46 AM

Just did some reaserch on the web and the cheapest I found it was $999. I agree can we have someone fabricate it for half the price?

NOC 03-06-2006 05:55 PM

Just called my dealer parts guy and the best price he can get me was $800 so I think I might be ordering mine soon....If I can get the 4.6is rear bumper for less then $300

fln8tive 03-06-2006 06:36 PM

Did anyone call Nick at Morristown BMW?--I did not have time today. He's way lower on running boards, maybe likewise on the bar.

Intel55 03-06-2006 08:42 PM

Or calling this guy, Kevin Knight 478-757-7000, BMW of Macon. I guess their prices are cost +10%.

Macon parts tells me they only show the underride bar as part of the $1900 aero kit, not sold separately...hope this helps.

  they are soooo wrong. Hmmm maybe try old standbys like Crevier and Pacific.

fln8tive 03-07-2006 06:33 PM

Do you have a part number davekatentl?

FULANITO 03-07-2006 06:55 PM

Whatever price you find it for, remember you'll still pay installation charges unless you do it yourself. I know when I got mine I was charged $985 for the part and $414 for the install = $1,399.

NOC 03-08-2006 09:41 AM

How hard is this to install that they charged you 400 for it?
I figured it would be just putting on some bolts and adjusting it..

I think there's around 10 bolts to install it. $40 per bolt, sounds about right for BMW....:tsk:

NOC 03-08-2006 10:51 AM

Just to put on some bolts....:tsk:
I can't imagine paying them that type of $$ for something so simple.

Update in my email this morning from Kevin Knight at Macon BMW:

for the standard bumper the price is $852.50 if you have the aero package the cost will
be $852.50 also plus shipping.

Zulu95 03-08-2006 11:12 AM

But only factory trained techs know how to turn BMW bolts and say the correct incantations in German as they turn them!

NOC 03-08-2006 11:49 AM

Don't forget the proper torque and number of turns it takes to make it tight.

cool, so now we have $852 as the lowest price so far. Probably close to the best price we are going to get on these.
I think I wil try pacific for a quote today. It is a really good looking piece.

you guys are killing him :) :)

have to agree though, I bet it is a rather simple install. $400 for the install  I do most all of my own car work (not the tranny though, evil things they are :) ), but have only done the trailer hitch on the X5 so far and that was easy.

unless you find a used one or one for sale by a private seller you won't find the underride guard any cheaper than that

Josh4.6 03-08-2006 04:43 PM

The installation requires removal of the front bumper. You also have to make minor cuts in a few areas of the plastic underbody for the front mounting brackets that come down. The dealer is unbelievable......they were going to charge me around $600 for the install

I had it installed at a local body shop for $180. The shop did say if they did it again they would charge a bit more (took longer than they expected). I thought about doing it myself, but without having it up on a lift - it seemed difficult. The instructions are only small black and white pictures with no written instruction. The shop did have to call BMW to verify something. Make sure when you get it from the dealer you have them print the instructions from their computer - they are not in the box.

NOC 03-08-2006 04:48 PM

You got any pics of your X w/ it installed? I would like to see some close shoots as well as side ones just to make sure I really want that on my X.
TIA

Josh4.6 03-08-2006 05:20 PM

The box just fit in the back after I popped out the retractable cargo cover deal. Out of the box it fits no problem.
