Thoughts on debadging

I just bought my 03 4.6 2 weeks ago and i love it.However the previous owner removed all badging(4.6is and X5).What are you views on whether I should leave them off or replace them. Some of me likes the cleaner look while the other part seems to think something is missing. All thoughts are appreciated!

I don't mind the badges.

There is no "right" answer...give it some time and you'll get a stronger opinion. Congrats on the car. I waited a year before putting aluminum running boards on...

Congratulations!!!

Congratulations on your new purchase!!! I hope you enjoy it, and post some pics so that we can see it!!! As for the badging I would recommend you put the X5 badge in the rear back on, as well as, the 4.6is on the rear driver side not the fenders. Just my opinion!! Good luck!!!
P.S. - This is what mine looks like:

It's totally up to you. I don't mind the one on the back but I'm not a fan of the one on the sides. As accella suggeted, you'll probably decide after you've had the X for a little longer.

My 4.6is badges have been deleted. We don't need no stinkin' badges! Hah, and surprises the crap out of people not expecting to get smoked by a SUV.

Thunder22 03-15-2006 10:34 PM

it's a personal decision... IMHO i like the badges. they're subtle enough.

jimthegreek 03-15-2006 10:36 PM

No offense, but yoru signature is annoying and huge. Resize your pics.

Where did you get the V8 badge? Does BMW have a part# for that?

Better??? Sorry if I annoyed anyone!!!

pepatrick 03-16-2006 12:26 AM

I think you should replace the badges, especially for the 4.6is model. You should be proud that you have a 4.6is...plus most people have seen the 4.4 and 3.0...when they see the 4.6 badge...they ask questions....its kind of like bragging rights.

asawadude 03-16-2006 08:22 AM

Badges = dirt catchers

NOC 03-16-2006 09:11 AM

Without badges it gives the fenders a less cluttered look and looks clean. I would just put the rear X5 badge as suggested by others. Good luck none the less and enjoy the X5 :D

What is the best way to debadge?, fishing line , dental floss? and if I were to re install at resale , how would I adhere to truck body?, suggestions?

ChristopherM3 03-16-2006 04:31 PM

I took my 3.0i badging off.........Heat it with a hair dryer for 6-8 minutes & get it pretty hot and take some dental floss & run behind it. It should come of pretty easy - then just clean it up a little bit after that to get the extra glue off.

Kevin told me how to do this one...........Thanks again Kev!!!

:withstupi I like the badges too - especially the 4.6 & 4.8 badges...

powers1 03-16-2006 07:06 PM

I like just the X5 on the back.Took off the side badges.

mdk5623 03-16-2006 09:26 PM

Badgeless. We all know what we drive. Who cares. The badge has become too important to many auto manufacturers--It's their way of advertising....

check out my gallery, the badge i have is just at the rear and it's the AC Schnitzer emblem. i used fishing line to remove the X5 and 4.4i badges (dental floss will also work just fine). to re-install the same badges u took off, you have to get those 3M mounting tape (grey double side tape) and replace the ones on the badges then stick it back to your ride.
