Red Illumination???

Hello All,

I'll be a new '06 X5 4.4i owner soon as I am currently waiting on delivery...this will be my 1st BMW. Damn, I cannot wait to get it!

Anyway, does anybody know the story behind all BMW's with red illimination gauges? The red is ok but I see other vehicles with some cool color illumination to their gauges/dials and always wondered why BMW has always had them red.:dunno: Anybody know why?

Thanks!

Red (really more orange) preserves your night vision

thats why night scopes use red light, or those emergency lights in buildings, red is better for night vision because your iris does not enlarge/contract...

The eye is most sensitive to the red end of the spectrum so it does not, as was stated dilate as much. This means it takes less time to recover as it shifts from inside to outside while driving at night.
