Air conditioning blowing warm air

I have a 2002 X5 3.0 Sport w/59K. I recently noticed my air conditioning was blowing plenty of air but all warm. By warm I mean the same temperature as outside air.

I took the X5 to an air conditioning shop recommended by my independent. After a brief diagnostic they concluded it is an electrical problem and I am scheduled to bring it back Monday morning for further diagnostic.

Any suggestions as to what the problem may be? Once again plenty of air but none of it cool.

Thanks in advance.

That's the diagnosis.

Bringing back Thursday. They believe it is a faulty fan.

Will post an update once I get one.

Thanks for the responses.

You mean aux. cooling fan? (Electric fan in front of the radiator.)

No Xpert, but dunno what "fan"
not coming on has effect of
producing ambient/warm air
vs. A/C'd air.

This does sound like the problem. Called the shop and they assured me this is one of the first things they check.

I believe they want to replace the aux. cooling fan @ aprox $500 parts.

The shop came highly recommended to me from my independant and has been in business for some time.

Does make you wonder though . . . .

Quick search on the web result: $390

The conclusion.

The replaced the Auxiliary Fan (part was $423.35) and all is well. The whole job including servicing/charging the air conditioning unit was $965.

Nice to have air again . . . especially since my X5 is black.

I really like my car. Have been driving in manual lately. And looking for hills.

Thanks.

Funny how i too have a '02 with 59,600k and have the exact same problem and exact same solution. Bad a/c condenser fan, relay from the fan won't turn on the compressor therefore 'warm-ambient air'.

Cost of fan was $382 and installed the fan myself.
