Folding mirrors mod question

I've been in France the past two weeks (another week to go), and have been driving a rental Peugeot 407. One feature on the Peugeot, that is pretty cool, is when you lock the car doors, the mirrors fold in... great for the city when parking in tight spaces, etc. Has anyone thought of doing the same on our x5's? It would be pretty easy... a relay attached to the door lock actuator and the mirror fold button. I can't think of any downsides.

Thoughts?

Ummm, my X5 does that with a push of a button

I have seen that on some of the new M-Benz as well. Should be do able.

Yea, LeMans, I am talking about auto closing the mirrors when locking the car.

I'm worried about it getting out of synch, so will run through the schematics when I get home, to see if there are separate signals coming into actuator for lock and unlock... or if it's just activate (lock if it's unlocked, or unlock if it's locked). I supect it's discrete the and think it will be pretty simple, hardest part will be taking the door panel off. WIll post what I find in case someone else is interested in this mod.

The only down side is that you'll put more wear and tear on that already weak motor that BMW uses in those mirrors. I would just close it manually whenever it's needed and bypass the automatic mode...else, I can see you swapping out those tiny motors annually.

I agreed with you on this, dkl. I closed the mirrors everytime I pulled into my garage and after 7 months, one of them went bad. The other made some horrible sounds one time.
