UPDATED! Another successful exhaust mod.
After some time with the straight pipe on my 4.8, I am going another route with the exhaust.....
My Dad and I have a project car that has Flowmaster 50 series SUV mufflers on it, the sound is deep and mean. Well, as you have figured out by now, I have a dual inlet/outlet 50 series Flowmaster going on the X tomorrow. The stock tips have to go, but I have some nice stainless steel Magnaflow tips to replace them. I will hopefully post some pics and sound clips tomorrow. |
E: Very cool...
Damn, Man, I thought you had a date with DrDrex for some "plumbing" work. Glad to read it's your X's pipes! BR,md Edit...that may not read correctly: DrDrex is world class physician; I am just glad E's plumbing situ is his car, not his innards. |

Sounds killer, get us some clips!
ps. dibs on your 4.8 muffs if you are going to toss them or sell them off. |
Let us know how it goes man.. I went to my local muffler shop and I was going to installed 50 series Flowmaster but the guy told me its going to sound like crap... He told me to go with Magnaflow but Im still thinking on it.. Try going for some Magnaflow Universal mufflers.. I was going to get these http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=762 it has dual 3.5" tips. I think by installing the flowmasters it will give you that drone at low rpm thats what Ive heard..

what kind of muffler are you going to replace the OEM?
|
Nothing. Resonator was already out. The Flowmaster is going in the spot of the resonator. So, we'll see. I was just talking to my Dad and he said that it looks good so far. He said the new exhaust tips are just about the same size as the OEM tips. It also sounds like the muffler is a little shorter than the resonator, so a small piece of pipe was needed to fill the gap and then another piece where the mufflers were. If all goes well, and there is interest maybe I can get something mocked up and make a bolt-on system available.
If it sounds ANYTHING like the car they are on, this may be the best way to go. There is definitely no tinniness(word?), raspiness, nothing. For those interested, according to the sound chart Summit Racing has, the outside tone is rated as deep and the interior is mellow. |
