Help:Aluminum running boards

Hi, I've just bought a 2001 X5 3.0L a month ago,
I want to modify the running board first.
However, I found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-B...spagenameZWDVW
from ebay, its a direct bolt-on running board, unlike the OEM parts, which requires the stock side skirt to be replace before installing the running board. Thus, I was afraid it might work as well as it says.

Thanks:thumbup:

First off, :xoutpost:. I wouldn't bother with these. They look cheap but are not cheap being priced at $340 USD. You can probably get the OEM BMW ones for $500 USD from a BMW dealer here. These eBay ones are nothing more than a stick-on aesthetic mod and are certainly not as durable and robust as the real deal. For that price, spring for the real thing.

You tread on those and they'll break off

Agree, those look very cheap and will not last more then a month if they actually go on w/ 3M tape.
Opt for the OEM as they should last more then a month and will also look better.

Do a search for running boards here, that's how I got mine. Get OEM.

Those things are garbage. Ask for more pics from the seller and you will see what I'm talking about.

I think if you do a search; a while back the seller was trying to see them on here.

Hey, has anyone actually seen these in person? For a 4.8 the installation of OEM also requires flares for an add'l $500-600. Quite a price difference!

First of all I would like to thaml everypme for giving me so much advise.
I actaully thought it was crappy anyways, but the OEM parts from BMW.ca are listed as 1200CAD without labour. Thus, maybe I should get it install in US if is really $500USD, so anyone know any good shops around Bellingham or near Washington? cuz I live in Vancouver, dont wanna drive too far to get it install.
Thanks again!:)

Since you're on the West Coast try Crevier BMW, that's where I bought mine. There are some dealers on the East Coast that might have slightly better prices but it may work out the same after shipping. If you do order from the US try to ship via USPS and not UPS. UPS will kill you on custom brokerage fees.

Consider installing them yourself. It's a fairly easy DIY project and there is plenty of information and help on this site.
