A pillars - fabric is messed up!

Both my drivers and passenger A pillars have this same problem, but passenger is worse. The cloth fabric that should be flat is bumpy and coming loose. I'm not sure how to repair this (my X is out of warranty). Anyone else had this and did a DIY fix?

Interesting...

I think that something has went wrong in the manufacturing process. Even though there is not warranty anymore, that kind of problems should not be in place. I would go to the dealer and ask them to contact the manufacturer to study this. If the manufacturer agrees that there is a problem, you will likely get new parts for free.

How far is your X out of warranty? Sometimes dealers will agree to take care of an issue like that even though you're out of warranty simply out of good will. It looks like there was a problem with the adhesive.

If you get no love from your dealer, I would suggest a fw options. You could buy new ones. Without looking at those pillars on my X5, I think they are seperate pieces and can be replaced without replacing the entire headliner. Another option would be to remove it and try using an iron, not too hot, and ironing it out. I can't vouch for this working but the combination of heat and pressure might re-glue the fabric down. Finally, you can see if a good upholstery shop will tackle that. I'm sure they can but it's a matter of cost.

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

I had the same probelm and had mine replaced by the dealer under warranty. I believe the only way to fix is replace entirely.

I'll need to check on the parts. I went to the local BMW Dealer and they said I'd need to contact BMW directly as they are 'just the administrator of the warranty'. And my car is out of warranty. I'm afraid to know what the parts would cost but I can check at Crevier and BMW of Macon too as they've been really great to deal with.

i had the same problem on my CPO 02 x5 and the dealer changed them at no cost.

good luck.

To remove, just pry off the HPS cover and remove the Torx screw underneath. Then the whole thing pops out.
Loosen the glue and use 3M spray adhesive to glue it back on. That's what I would do.
