replaced 4.4 with a range rover.

replaced with the new rangerover HSE. big mistake, car is slow and sloppy. keep your x5's or cayenne Turbos and S. much better driving cars.

Will they let you trade for a Supercharged Sport model? That may help a bit...

fln8tive 04-17-2006 04:08 PM

You replaced with the flagship HSE or the new Sport? Confused. IMO, the HSE still has a nice curb presence.

pseto 04-17-2006 04:13 PM

did you test drive it before you bought it? i doubt i would buy a car unless i've driven it.

eride 04-17-2006 05:14 PM

actually i drove the supercharged, and was thoroughly disappointed with the blower, assuming the hse wouldn't be that much slower. the car is for the wifey and she wanted the the bigger one not the sport. definitely has curb appeal, it's at the shop being modded. wheels color matching and bush grill

at4689 04-17-2006 05:39 PM

sorry to hear man .. how long the lease ?

xx3 04-17-2006 10:13 PM

The older BMW engined one was nice. Although I agree it could never hold a candle to the X. Then again, rev it high enough, the 4.4i engine was loud that at least you think your going fast. :)

mandm1 04-18-2006 12:13 AM

Funny ... I just traded my 2006 Land Rover LR3 HSE in (well, sort of a dealer buyback) and ordered a 2006 X5 4.4i with sport pkg.

I had an '03 X5 4.4i (sans sport pkg.) and should have just gone for another one; but I thought I would try the Land Rover. BIG MISTAKE!! Very poor customer relations - right up to the corporate level. Problems that are pointed out suddenly become "operating as our engineers designed "

Glad I'm back in the BMW fold and eagerly awaiting delivery of my X.

Good to know, I loked long and hard at the RR before going to the X..Great forum...have learned a ton here in a short time...lots of smarties here.

Intel55 04-18-2006 02:01 AM

oppss... damn I thought everyone knew RR are pieces of shit. :) Well, at least every RR owner I have ever talked too says they hate them. :) Always broken and no fun to drive.

i have a 2005 RangeRover HSE one of the nices car i have driven, not one problem 12k miles so far and its been a dream....its not a race car not ment to be. my wife drives it everyday and loves it. it was the last Bmw built model. not sure i would buy a ford/jag one.

that sucks man, they are enjoyable cars but certainly don't compare to the X5. they have a great curb prescence but that's about it. good luck with whatever you end up doing.

fln8tive 04-18-2006 11:07 AM

A friend of mine has an LR3, wife loves it, two other friends have RR HSE's with the Beemer motor and I never hear complaints. The RR sits higher than the X...the LR3, the Sport, and the HSE have a LOT more cargo room. They will also leave an X5 behind in the woods. I went with the X because it's a bit nimbler, gets better mileage than the HSE, depreciates less, and is, well, not so middle aged (for a guy)....After the Touareg , there was no effin' way I was going to take a chance on a first year model.

X5 911 04-18-2006 11:09 AM

I just went through this same thing. The wife wanted the X5 and I did too, but thought that she would want the E70 in a few months. Problem is we cannto wait that long. Anyway, I wanted her to take a long look at boht RRS and RR. I drove both and loved the comfort, but the drive was sloppy. I have one friend who has a RR who says it is a POS, but he doesn't care. He likes it and expects it to be in the shop. My brother in law has a RR that has never had any problems after 50k miles so it seems that in the sampling of 2 at least one is decent on reliability. Anyway after the test drives it was pretty clear to the wife which she wanted. Of coruse she is a BMW loyalist almost to a fault. Then again I am too as I am currently driving my first non BMW car in over 10 years.

Nick@Jlevi SW 04-18-2006 12:49 PM

I think they are two different cars really. If you want to compare RR to X, then compare the Sport model. The regular rover is meant to be a true SUV whereas the X5 and Sport model are more of a crossover car with SUV characteristics.

eride 04-18-2006 12:53 PM

don't get me wrong guys the car has great points as well, none of which fall into performance categories. it does have stellar curb appleal especially with the new wheels and greater cabin room, but i just wish the car was made with a bit more torque and a bit more nimble. i will exchange it with the x7 as soon as it comes available.

ESS4.6is 04-18-2006 08:32 PM

I had an 03 Range Rover HSE, I really did not like it one bit. I even felt the new design looked much worse than the 02 range rover. They are not really a performance orientated vehicle for sure, but do have some off road capabilites and a decent amount of room. Mine was not terrible in terms of reliability but it did have some annoying miscellaneous problems that were all fixed under warranty. It was my wife's vehicle, but I just didn't like it at all. We ended up trading it on an Escalade as we wanted something larger to go skiing in and also something stronger to tow the boat.

bimmer4life89 04-18-2006 10:34 PM

didnt expect the range rover to be any better than a X5 driving wise. sry to hear. but at least u can be ganster with the 24s and 12 inch subs.

Yeah, you are right. Land Rovers aren't any fun at all. That is my Land Rover that was driven about 1400 miles, then taken on some of the toughest trails in Moab, UT and driven back home with no problems whatsoever. I'd like to see that with any BMW.

To compare Land Rovers to BMW X5s is foolish. They aren't in the same category at all. All Land Rovers were designed to be driven on road and off road. The X5 is purely a on road vehicle. I love my X5 for the way it drives on the road. My Land Rover is a POS in comparison. I don't expect that my Land Rover will be good onroad, it wasn't designed for that.

As far as reliability goes, I'm not sure if BMW is any better. I've had more issues with my 01 X5 than the 97 Land Rover.
