Voice module help
 

I'm just about to buy a voice module so that the sat nav and phone can be operated by voice instructions. I'm buying it from the US as it's much cheaper than over here in the UK.

Does anyone know if there are any issues with this. Is the fitting straight forward (ie. plug and play). I take it the car is pre-wired for this??

If your vehicle is setup like the U.S. spec vehicles then it should be a very simple plug-n-play install.

I never found the blue plug anywhere in the boot? SO I have a voice module and no where to put it. I am still looking. late 2005 3.0d X5 with assist module.

Can I confirm the USA Voice Control Module talks and listens to Miles and Yards as opposed to Kilometres and Metres?

Even though my screen displays in Miles and Yards, my VR system responds to commands in Miles and Feet. The commands are noted at the bottom of this article - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/n...ation-diy.html

Looks like I'm gonna have the same problem as you - I had a quick look and couldn't find the connector. Did you look under the spare? I haven't yet - I only looked at the loom where the Nav unit is.

In the end I took the spare out all the covers off and all the 'boxes' out of the nav cd area. The only thing I could not do was get the boot side off I thought the connector may have been stuffed up the side out of the way. I used a mirror but could not see it. There was a hint if you had assist etc then you couls not have VR BUT you would have thought the connector would be there anyway. ALso this was contradicted by many people.

If you find the connector or what happened to it I would be interested as I have been looking for ages dismantling a bit more of the car each time.

I got mine from E-Bay

Easy to install. Luckily mine came with the cable connector.

The Voice module installs near the top of the equipment rack in Rear LHS of vehicle (above CD Changer and Nav Computer)

The wiring loom is a T shaped adaptor that connects between the Bluetooth ULF and the main car wiring loom. It simply plugs in and no coding necessary.

You can probably buy a wiring adaptor from your BMW dealer.
