Rear Headrest screens

Hi I am just about to fit a couple of rear screens to the headrests in my X5, does anyone have any suggestions about how to deal with the cables from the screens. i.e getting them into the headrest pillars which are solid!

I did the same install on my previous X5 and ran the cable down from the centre of the headrest through a rubber boot and a new hole cut into the seat top. I am trying to make it look totaly OEM, so any suggestions from anyone who has done this would be much appreciated.

Personally I would never have a cable running down the centre of the headrest! What about running the wire along one of the pillars and covering it with some king of plastic tubing? Not sure if the headrest will actually go up and down though. Would it be too much work to replace the metal pillar with a hollow one? :dunno:

There was a company here in the uk who offered a hollow post headrest support unit, but it is apparently no longer available. I don't know if anyone in the US offers anything similar?

I was thinking of machining a groove in the existing shaft to hide the cable, and then all I have to sort out is getting the 1" wide 10 pin screen connector plug through the hole for the headrest shaft!

i did it in mine myself.

the cable is neatly tucked next to one of the metal tubes into the plastic fascia.

a company called Vizualogic makes a headrest with a hidden cable but its shape was not the same as the sport seats on my '03 4.6.

its easy to do.

check out the FAQ on the front board.

you must take the back of the seat off to do this properly and you will need two of the appropriate fasteners on either side.

its a great mod. the vizualogic headrests did not exactly match the color and shape of the leather/backrest; besides, i used sony hi def widescreen monitors which also have a built in infrared transmitter and have two audio and video inputs so that each user can watch their own channel (TV versus the second input).....

jeff and i did in one sunday morning. took a few hours. its easier to do than you think.

check out this example of install instructions (almost exactly how we did it) here

I like the kit made by Vizualogic, especially since it makes the install so simply. However I can not find anyone that makes the monitors in black. Your setup is cool but wouldn't it look so much better with a small black trim around the monitors instead of that big white trim?? I guess worse come to worst I could paint the Vizualogic trim black! :dunno:

That is one wicked X5. Nice retrofit headlamps. Seems like the windshield has the 20% tint like the one DropTopBM got for his imola red 4.8is.
