Ipod Again

Hi all,
I'm in Australia: i have a 2004 X5 3.0d. I reeeeeally need some way to integrate the ipod into the controls: and i'm at this stage so desperate i'll be happy to only have volume control through the steering wheel.
My dealer tells me that as i have satnav and CD stacker, there is NO way of making the ipod integration happen. I think this totally sucks: there must be a way of making the ipod a part of the sound system.
ALSO.... is it relatively easy for an auto electrician to disable the speed control override on the in dash TV?
Thanks so much everyone - looking forward to hearing from people that know the machine!

cheers

oops

it seems we can't actually use the Icelink without disengaging the Cd stacker for ever. .... So i guess the dealer is right? seems odd we can't arrange for some sought of splitter system. A shame. Thanks anyway for your help!
best regards

julie

We are working on a splitter/source selector for the devices in the meantime. Stay tuned!

Welcome from another Oz diesel owner. Is your name derived from you being NOT someone to step on?? ( for those that don't know a bindii - pronounced bindieye - is a lovely weed found in Australian lawns that are very small and spiky)

hi fellow Oz

Yep pretty much! well spotted fellow Aussie. see you in the forums!;)

I haven't use my cd changer (stacker) since I've started listening to my iPOD in my X5. Just my .02.

what's your opinion?

Hi ekaz..
what's your opinion on the sound quality of the mp3 (compressed) signal as opposed to the CD signal thru the system? i know it would be very easy to get used to the convenience of the ipod, but sometimes there's nothing better on a long drive than an earsplitting music blast. I don't know that the mp3 would hold up (maybe my ears wouldn't either!) anyway, just interested. thanks for the reply. :)

It depends on how your settings for the MP3, I tend to burn at the highest bit-rate, I have no problems with the sound quality. My speakers tend to give up before my ears.

If this is the case, I would recommend converting the Audio CD tracks to Apple's Lossless Compression format (AAC), the quality would be the same as CD.

ekaz 05-01-2006 02:09 PM

That's what I was thinking of. Thanks Tom!

I've got the dension kit in my car and I am a bit of a hi-fi nut, frankly in the confines of a car (especially on our wonderful roads!) you would be hard pressed to notice the difference between CD and mp3 (or AAC)

100% agree. The quality you hear through the BMW will be exactly what you would hear through the iPod's headphones.

bindieye 05-03-2006 03:26 AM

sounds encouraging, especially from fellow Aussie who knows the roads (and the noise they can make!). I do actually already burn AAC onto the pod - so perhaps the Icelink is the go for me. I feel suitably convinced. :) thanks to all!
