Thanks guys. I simply mounted my camera on a long tripod in the back seat, set it for a 5 second exposure on iso800 and used a remote shutter switch.

This was my first go and there seems to be a bit of a knack. Firstly a curved road gives the best effect (2nd photo) and it needs to be dark enough that you can keep the car interior lit only by the dash lights. I found that driving along a highway where there were fewer overhead lights, and moving into the farthest lanes away from them worked best. It is dark enough if you don't get any light falling across the dash top.

Lastly, it needs to be a pretty flat road so you don't get camera shake....

Cheers

why did you shoot at 800 if you had a 5 second shutter? why not just leave it at ISO100?

I usually only use 100 but as I was experimenting I thought I'd see what results I got...

Canon Eos20D with a standard 18-75mm lens, mounted on a tripod just behind the front seats. The camera only had shutter priority setting so I could hold the release while driving and I set it @ 5 seconds as any longer would give too much light.

nope, just a freeway at night. you get better results at higher speeds. The first photo was taken through an interchange @ 80kph whereas the secon was @100kph on a slight curve
