Imola Reds???

Dear all,

I saw a 4.4 in Imola Red ( a special order) on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RARE-...QQcmdZViewItem.

But from the pictures the color is very different from the 4.8 Imola Reds. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006-...QQcmdZViewItem or http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BRAND...QQcmdZViewItem. I like the 4.8 Imola color much better.

The seller says that BMW have been changing the Imola Red color over the years. Please help. I really like Imola X5s, but the pictured 4.4 looks vintage.

I thought Imola Red was only an option for the 4.6/4.8 and not available on 3.0 and 4.4?

Its a special order, they must have changed the color because there are different shades, i swear

could be a different shade. however, digital cameras have a hard time with red. i have a guards red 911 that hasn't been accurately photographed yet (4 different cameras with a range of lenses).

So it is different, isn't it? Obvious from the pic anyway... Yes I have seen at least two 4.4s in Imola. More feedbakc please so I can make my mind. Thanks!

I am sure I saw an advert from this guy a while ago advertising an X5 dinan limited edition.

Only thing was it was SE spec with 16inch Alloys.

Just tread very carefully, mate

If BMW changed the shade of Imola Red, they would have assigned it a new color code. However, for 2006, it is listed in the BMW color chart as #405, the same code assigned since 2002. If they changed the paint but not the code, there will be some pissed off body shop painters and car owners across the country.

As number7 suggests, the digital camera used probably couldn't reproduce Imola Red accurately and the dealer is coming up with some lame BS excuse. There is no way that BMW would make change Imola Red into Electric Red which is how it looks in the photo.

Here is a link to a handy color BMW reference if anyone needs one - it contains color codes dating back to the BMW 1600's and 2002's.

I have an Imola Red '03 4.6 and it does vary in color quite a bit at different angles and with sunlight. It goes from a darker red to a bright red so the pictures and cameras used will definately show this.
I have seen a 4.4 in Imola and it did seem to be a slightly different shade than mine though.

and how do we know if this is not an aftermarket paint job?

doesn't the inside door tag contain original factory color? if its really Imola Red, he can take a snapshot of the tag.
