BRAKE, ABS and DSC Lights on
Hey guys, does anybody know the solution to my problem?
I've screwing around with my new 2001 X5 today and I ended up draining the battery, so I recharged maybe for 10 minutes. I started it up with the charger still hooked up. Once the X5 started I went and unplugged the charger and disconected the -/+. I noticed that the orange "BRAKE" light, "ABS" light and the DSC light was all on. I let my X5 run for about 5 minutes before I shut it off. I let it sit for about 10 seconds than I turned it back on, and let it run for another 30 seconds or so, continuing that process about 5 times. I remember on my 97 528i this process cleared the codes for something. I do have an OBD II, but 0 codes came up. So anyway, they haven't gone away yet, what should I do? Is it a software problem like some say? Did I fry something when recharging the battery? WTF is it? :tsk: UPDATE**** Thank you, I did have to drive around the block and they did go off. I killed my battery again after this and again, I did have to charge it up and the same lights came on. They did go off again after driving it around the block... I guess this is a "normal" thing... Oh well, Im just glad everything is working. Thank you guys for the replys!!! |
Every time you restart your X5 it does a system check by itself. And if your abs dsc are working again., The lights will not come on at the resart. So that means that you have more of a serious problem and there are no codes to reset. Your abs and dsc is just not working. You are probably gonna have to bring it in. Maybe you fried something on the junp start. Did you jump it properly.

brake light
Before you bring it to stealer,Try to drive your car in 500 yards and see if your lights will go out.Where are you in San Jose?

I had a lot of lights on and my horn would not work as well as my back wiper jumped etc. I needed a new ignition switch. Check your horn, wiper, radio operation and see. $55 and an hour labor all fine.
good luck Ge |
I had exactly the same happen to me - ended up with a replaced idle control valve and that seems to have fixed it.

Try turning the steering from lock to lock with the engine running.

Turning the wheel is what BMW decided will kill the lights. Their choice!
