Question on sport drilled rotors...
 

Well I'm due for new brakes and plan on going with the Axxis Deluxe pads. Tirerack stocks the Brembo cross-drilled rotors. Are they simply cosmetic or will I notice any difference from stock brakes and calipers?? I also hear that stainless steel braided lines are better than stock brake lines and reduce the spongy brake feel.

However the note clearly says that the cross-drilled rotors are not warrantied against warping or cracking and should not be used for high performance or track use! This leads me to believe they're not really any better than the stock rotors. The regular rotors do not have this disclaimer. :confused:

Anyone with Brembo drilled rotors that can share their experiences???:)

I've had the Brembo drilled rotors on for a year now and I have no complaints. I'm running OEM pads and calipers with them.

This idea is to allow for greater energy/heat transfer and dissipation accross the surface. Your going to notice it most when you are under hard braking often (hard at work, trailering boat or play, well playing), as this is when the rotors will function at a kool temp. I dought that they are in any way inferior to the OEM rotors. The OEM rotors are subject to the same failer, for example when you get that shutter under braking. IMO its worth the money, I purchased mine from stop check, and they are cross drilled and slotted like 250 for the set. I would not change the calipers because then your going to need a larger rotor and your getting into a lot of dough for the big break kit. The OEM break lines are fine, unless you just want to replace them. The pads make a huge dif. to me as they reduced stoping distance and increased road feel and most of all cut the break dust way down. I would do it the way you have, then that way you can feel what your getting from each addition.

Unless you're absolutely locked into to buying Brembo, you might think about the Stoptech Stage 2 brake kit which gets you everything you need for a brake overhaul. It is described as follows on the Stoptech website:

Stage 2 drilled brake upgrade kit for 2000-2004 BMW X5 with solid rear rotors. Includes front and rear Axxis Ultimate brake pads, front and rear StopTech stainless steel brake lines, three 500mL bottles of Motul RBF600 DOT 4 synthetic brake fluid, and pair of front and rear stock sized StopTech cross-drilled brake rotors. FITS STOCK CALIPERS.

$719 for the entire kit, MSRP. You might find it cheaper if you shop around. The next step up would be a big brake kit from one of the major aftermarket companies (Brembo, Stoptech, Rotora, etc.).
