door handle lighting question..

When I was driving today I noticed that all the door handles had the little orange lighting except for my driver side.. I put my hands on the driver side and felt that there is a bulb there but it is not lit. Is this suppose to be like this? I have a 05 so I don't think the bulb is burnt.

Hey, I've got the same problem, but i thought it got burnt since I bought my X used and it is 2002.... Anyone else has this problem?

maybe the driver side doesn't light up because it would distract the driver?

They should all light up. You either need to replace the bulb on the drivers side door or you have an electrical fault. More probable that you need a new bulb.

....the lamp 'clicks' into a clear light tube...the bulb is actually about 4" away, attached to the back/rear of the handle...mine had been broken...gotta pull the door panel to access.....most likely, lamp has become unattached....

Take it to the dealer its covered under warranty.

Agree with taking to dealer under warranty. Had the same problem shortly after I bought my 4.4i new from dealer in '02. Turns out the bulb socket was not plugged in, which they discovered by removing door panel.

Right, its called a light pipe that carries the light from an LED. The light pipe is very fragile and if someone has removed the door panel and not been carefull, the light pipe is broken. I believe the pipe is sold as part of the door handle assembly. If your handy and not under warranty, I've had good success gluing the pipe using plastic model glue.

yeah probally the dealer broke it because they removed my door panel because my door panel was making creaking noise..
