More Diesel Power now!
Just fitted a DPchip box (OZ version of Tunit) to my 05 diesel X and headed straight for the hills. The extra power is obvious and now it laughs at hills when before it just smiled. Buckets of torque come on earlier, now 525nm from 480nm (untested) giving quick acceleration from the lights. Wife was with me so had to behave a bit not good testing conditions  . I will be testing it on the different settings in the following weeks and post some results and pics. If there are any local diesel Xer's thinking of doing or have done this mod I'd like to here from you.

A 2005 3.0D X5 has 218bhp against the 204bhp of the X3!This on European vehicles! The X5 was never sold with the less tuned 204 bhp engine, although on BMW's web site in Australia it does state the X5 with 204 and the X3 with 218!Maybe be worth you confirming with your local dealer! The data on their web site could be wrong! Also,I just checked www.bmw.co.uk and all new X5 and X3s sold today have exactly the same engine. |
Does this mod void your warranty? What kind of extra stress does the engine realize as a result?

As far as I can gather the OZ spec X5 has the extra power 160kw (218bhp) and 480nm over the X5. This may be a extra tweek to compensate for our poor fuel quality, or the X3 being 'Johnny come lately' gets the new spec engine for the new X5d. I'll ask the question tomorrow anyway. Cheers, |

The Aussie spec X3 get the all new alloy 3.0 Diesel with 160kw and 480Nm. This is surely the case as I have done plenty of research about this! The Europeans only get 410nm. Australia gets the same spec as the South Africans.

We used to get the 204bhp and 410Nm version, now as per my link above ,the X3 gets same engine as the X5. The X5 was never available in 204 bhp/410 nms in Europe. I still say the BMW Aussie site data is wrong to state the X5 with a lesser engine than the X3! |
