TV in motion problems

My car has been in to a local ICE specialist (based in Leamington Spa) on a number of occasions without success. I was wondering if any other X5 owners has had similar problems - perhaps a compatibility problem.

Basically, I have the BMW rear entertainment system installed - 10 disc DVD etc etc - but this is separate from the front screen/TV. I also have the dension IPOD cradle.

What I have wanted for sometime now is the ability to source the DVD through the front screen and also the ability to source TV through the rear screens. Also, to have TV in motion.

This local ICE specialist, who I have used for years and they do know what they are doing - are starting to lose patience with the company that they are getting the necessary lead(s) from.

Basically, should just be a matter of plugging a special lead in!! But, when they do, the system doesn't work as it should. The problem, they think, is down to the dension ICE link, maybe!!

A company in London have said that my system may need recoding (can't remember what box they need) and they can do this for Ģ120 - the cable should then work.

Anyone else had similar problems??

Regards,

Dave

I have both a TVonNav in-motion module and a Dension IceLink Plus and I haven't noticed any major compatibility issues. :dunno:

Hi Dave,

Jeff got the TV in motion lead from the same supplier as I did!TVONNAV made the lead but as you probably know these guys are almost impossible to get hold of!It seems they are no longer trading.

The only reason I want TV in motion is to take my passengers eyes off the road  I have no intention of multi-tasking herewith watching TV, I've got too many other gagets to play with :)

I hear ya. I just know, because I am in the industry, that the FMVSS has passed a law prohibiting the use of the "ECU confusion switch" in vehicles because you get people watching movies while they are driving. This is also why flipdown monitors have to now be mounted at the B-Pillar or deeper back. Watch yourself with those police officers as well...especially if they pull you over at night and see it up and running! :tsk:

Just looking out for ya bro! Buckle up!

Last month in Ontario, Canada they passed the same law. There cannot be any "viewing device" that can play any kind of video at all (be it VCR, TV or DVD) in the front of the cabin. You can only have that stuff in the rear of the vehicle, B-pillar and backward. There are 4-digit fines and confiscation if they catch you. If you're involved in an accident, your device will be used against you as evidence of reckless driving. Well thought-out law if you ask me. I support this one.

I have it working just as you want in my car, no problem. I have the AUX connector installed too which is how I feed the DVD in to the front screen and the TV on to the rear screens. In the UK, cars have a tv button in the back that the kids can press to change stations up, 1 at a time. for some reason they didnt think to make it go down! so up you go.

Hi Fernando, yes I leave in Estoril, so funny to find someone from Portugal here. Where did you bought your module from? I heard you canīt barely see the TV while in movement, but this depends from the area you are driving. Do you leave in Sintra? We have to meet :)

Hi Adrian,

Do you have the TV in motion cable also? Do you know the make of the cable?

Many thanks,

Dave

the FMVSS?

yeah, and they outlawed non-OEM HIDs.

the FMVSS still hasn't stopped me from such....

another beaurocratic waste of time.

i mean, seriously. less than <0.1% of ALL drivers have TV/Video up front, but how many a$$holes on cell phones (not hands-free or speaker) are on the roads causing accidents EACH and EVERY day???

who cares what the FMVSS says! the NHTSA can go fly a kite.

I agree. Also, how many people (especially in Europe) smoke whilst driving - thereby taking one hand off the wheel at regular times, with smoke restricting the view of the road etc etc etc - That isn't banned!!

I live in Sintra.

Tv on the move picture is reasonable around Sintra,so I guess around Estoril,it will be better.

I bought the Tv module about a year ago from the States, but you can get them from Germany off EBAY.
I am going to leave you my mobile nr.966450109 should you want to contact me.

Tom, I was going to PM you for your help here. Do you know of any compatibilty problems with having the Dension link, TV in motion and a digital TV tuner (also, the system is DSP)?

Many thanks,

Dave

Just been on the phone to the local ICE guys and they asked me to ask you - Are you aware that the software versions are European? Could this present a problem?

Dave

The software on the TV module. A company in London are saying that they can perform some software update which will allow all to work together, they also say that there are differences between US and Euro software - hence, even if it all works on US cars, it doesn't mean it'll work on UK cars.

Am I being taken in here??

Tom, if you are confident that your TV in motion lead will work with my setup, then I'll order it from you - I take it you ship to England?

Many thanks,

Dave

I think your installer might be a bit misinformed, the TV module was never an option in US vehicles - and it works perfectly without any type of coding.

The TV in motion module will work with your setup, and we ship all over the world.

Well Tom, you are truly a genius!!

Your TV in motion works without any problems at all. As a result, my local ICE specialist are going to be changing supplier - expect some more orders over the coming months.

Many thanks,

Dave:)
