Weird electrical problems!!

So over the weekend the X5 encountered a number of electrical problems.

1. The auto headlights are not auto anymore, they stay on in auto position.
2. The turn indicators do not light up on the cluster, but they do work
3. The seatbealt light stays on all the time
4. The PDC does not turn on when you reverse nor does it turn off when you drive fast enough, but it does sense an object...if you remember to turn it on.
5. The radio is totally dead.

I dropped it off at BMW service this morning....we'll have to wait and see what they say. Not impressive for a new car with 8000 kms.

Electrical gremlins infest all modern cars. We love the very complex electronic controls and gadgets, but the technology is so prone to problems. I wouldn't get all worried about it. I suspect it will be a quick fix by the dealer.

I would have been tempted to disconnect battery for 10 mins and then re connect. Like re booting your PC, the cars sometimes need it.

Let us know what BMW say.

Well 8 hours later and BMW Toronto has no idea what it is with the exception they want me to pay for 2 hours for investigation. You can imagine what my response was! This brand new $80,000 X5 and only has 8,000 kms on it. They are suggesting that it is related to the Invision headrest system, even though that only requires power. Fortunatley, Parkview BMW installed the system and they will pick up that cost.

It doesn't inspire confidence that the service department said they have never seen anything like this.

I also had BMW Gallery install my Invision system for that reason...I don't want them pinning any problems to it. I've had no problems in the few weeks I've had it installed...great system!!

Just want to let everyone know in no way shape or form does that INVISION system, which only requires power, conflict with any of those BMW problems and/or issues. Even so, INViSiON has always and will always stand behind their products and in case of a fluke reaction, INViSiON is prepared to take action immediatley at any cost.

Thanks so much and happy 4th of July..

I had a similar problem when I installed my ipod hook up. I just disconnected the battery waited a few minutes then reconnected it. Problem solved.

I can also relate, my 06 X5 was acting up and the car only had 5000 km on it. The 4X4 light, brake light (!) and the DSC button was on i couldnt turn it off. Also my passanger seatbelt occasionaly turns on even when someone is sitting there. I had taken the car to BMW of Mississauga for service since its under warrenty but im to pleased with the sauga dealerships service dept. I am just about ready to get my two subs installed and im very skeptical about letting best buy or future shop install the subs becasue if anything goes wrong with the electrical system i know exactly who bmw is going to blame. maybe i show let bmw install the subs and amp.

Blair,

So it was the Icelink Ipod Adapter that screwed up everything? I hope IceLink is going to pick up that cost instead of you my friend! Let me know! As I stated in my email to you this morning...

"I knew it! Well I am happy and unhappy at the same time. Happy it's not my fault (you should give the Service Tech an old jewish man "A-HA!" from me! But, I am unhappy it had to happen to you. You have really been pulling for me over the net and just to let you know I really appreciate it! If their is anything I can do please let me know. Thanks Blair. I hope they resolve your issue for you and you should get Icelink to float the bill. Keep in mind there was a guy on your thread that said he had the same problem with the
icelink. Later B!"
