New owner.... advice needed
So I impulse bought a 2003 4.6is (41,000 miles), I was supposed to be buying a Range Rover. The car is black sapphire metallic with black Nappa interior. rear overhead dvd system, retractable cargo floor, Telephone (hard wired), Nav and Television Module (pretty fun but not terribly useful) and trailer hitch. Also M Steering wheel with paddle shifters which is pretty cool.
Well in the rush I didn't open the hood. Well I've got some surprises there too. The car's got the Dinan CAI, Throttle Body, and high flow mass meter. Maybe software updates as well? Some mods in the mail Dicelink (will pull the changer and sell it) Bluetooth Retro Kit Valentine One (Stealth One already wired in the car) So now the questions 1. Should I extend the maintenance program with BMW for $1100? 2. How can I find out if the ecu has the Dinan software? Can I take it to a Dinan dealer to have it checked? 3. What about extended warranty? I passed on it at the dealership. Would it cover the drive train since its been modded 4. Warranty is up in 4 months what should I be sure the dealer looks at? What are problem areas on these cars? 5. Anything else z should be looking at? My STi is loving the company. Pics to follow tomorrow. |
Another Chicago member...there are quite a few of you out there!

Dinan mirrors factory warranty for the first 50K. After that, if you have extended warranty coverage either through BMW or aftermarket, the Dinan mod would have had to cause the failure to not be covered.

Congrats! I would get the extended warranty and maintenence for sure. Dinan mods are supported by BMW dealers; someone with Dinan on their X5 will chime in.
