Exhaust tip options...
 

I washed my car yesterday (and of course it rained today... :mad: ) but I spent quite a while cleaning off the exhaust tips. I've got the OEM BMW chrome ones. They're rusting, it looks like. What are my options here? Any way to save them or do I need new ones? I'm thinking I might get a new exhaust anyway, but in the meantime do I need to get new ones?

If you're talking about the chrome addon tips, they shouldn't rust. If it does, this early, it's defective and have your dealer replace them. But if you're talking about the area where they welded the tips to the muffer, then a little rust seems normal (at least on BMWs) and shouldn't be much concern unless it has rusted all the way through. In that case, you would definitely know (the exhaust sound will be unbelievably loud) when you will need a new muffler. I'm surprised how much rust it had occured in that area of the muffler on my 1 year old X also and I'm in sunny southern cal, where there are no such thing as winter driving (I haven't taken the X up the slopes yet)! As for comparison, the muffler on my 10 years old Accord still looked spanking new when I sold it last year. So, it looks like BMW is using some crappy mufflers. But like you said, that exhaust rust may very well just be an excuse for me to put on an aftermarket one :D

Yeah they shouldn't rust this early, if you're going with an after-market, and don't want a full cat-back, Remus is a good choice. :)
