hatch open without hitting button?

never heard any feedback from this.....anyone else ever experience your hatch opening without hitting the button? there must be a short somewhere that sends a ground to open the hatch...does anyone have any suggestions?

Dont hold me to this but I`m sure I read on here about dodgy switches in the boot (tail gate). When replaced, the ghost goes away.

I've had mine pop open many times just by closing the door. I guess the X is so airtight that when closing the door, it causes the hatch to pop open. I close the door lightly and it doesn't pop open.

I have never seen what RMcox is talking about, but the hatch issue is a pattern failure of the wiring in the hatch itself. If you're under warranty, go back to the dealer and they will know immediately what the issue is.

It's not because of the pressure, it's the vibration. The hatch release is locked out when the X is moving so road vibrations don't affect the flaky switch. Try slamming the door with the windows open, I'll bet your hatch pops.

I"ve had my latch replaced

But it still happens occasionally if I close my doors hard.

This is the problem I was talking about. They mainly focus on the issue of the hatch re-locking when you close the door after unlocking the hatch. I unfortunately also have the occasional problem of the hatch popping open after getting in. Sorry this didn't help.

Go the back on the outside rear door. look at the roundel and then look up under and you will see that there are two screws holding the release mechanism...remove them...pop out the handle and look at the connection. Since BMW knows people will pay for the ride they do not fix these annoying things....water has corroded the connections and that is causing it to short. Go to the stealer...cough up $114 unpainted or $140 pianted and reverse the procedure.
