paddle shifters?

Anyone know if it is possible to put paddle shifters on the steering wheel of a 2006 4.4 x5?

I thought the hesitation I felt when I step on the gas hard was from the engine (talked about in other threads) but it turns out to be the transmission. Manually shifting now and the car is a blast!!! Would really love the paddles ...

Yes as far as I know... I have an '04 with paddle-shifters and they should basically be the same with the '06.

Any idea what a mod like this would entail?? New steering wheel?? or just paddles, ect...

Ok, that looks scary... I could end up with a new x5 without a steering wheel.

Not that scary, quite a few here have done it.

If you already have the sport air bag; I would go for it. The new wheel wouldn't be too expensive... It's a great "cool" mod...

How do I know if I have the sport air bag? I do have the sport package, with a heated steering wheel. PS Can I replace with a heated smg steering wheel?

I did the mod a little over a month ago and love it! I have an '02 4.6. Do you own the car or lease? You may want to be careful the new SSG or SMG wheel may void your warranty check it out first. BTW you will need a new steering wheel to have the paddle shifters from what I understand.

Check out this site http://www.mrpaddleshift.com/. I ordered from them about 6 months ago. They do a retro fit SSG sytem and, therefore, you don't have to buy a new wheel. I went for the M3 SMG wheel though (pic below). Excellent products.
