Does anyone know the best place to tap the interior courtesy light?

You can tap it right at the light. There is constant +12vdc there. while you have it out, you can also solder in two diodes between the main light and the reading lights, so that when a door is open all three bulbs will light, and you will still be able to use each individual reading light.
