The 5 series is widely known as a horribly unreliable vehicle unlike the previous generation, tons of rattles, many electronic glitches, I'd never buy one, when my x (BMW service tech) went with me to choose between a 5 series and an X5 when I got the current one, he said no way get the X

Sorry I don't get it. If they are not reliable then it would make perfect sense NOT TO BUY ONE!!!!!!!

;) That was sarcastic, the BMW style may be debatable but the reliability not

BMW stands for "Bring Money With you"

cause when they stop, you better have a pocket full to get them going again. But i love em, and have driven them for 20 years. chuck

I am in the process of selling the x5. The 325 runs fine and the 545 is still under warrenty. But I am considering getting rid of the 545 before the warrenty is over.

So the more you pay the more reliable? thats not true, never has been either. One dimentional views of quality lead to these kind of mis-statements. Buying something and expecting perfection based on the purchase price is never wise to assume, and with the mountains of information about X5’s you should know what you in for.

Taking the price = Quality theory to the extreme a Rolls should be an amazingly reliable car, and a Ferrari should be as well. And lets say a Honda should be the worst?

If BMW does not stand for quality, then which car company does?
