Key Memory Default
Is there any way to reset the key memory back to the factory default settings without having the dealer do it? thanks.

Specifically, I don't want the seat and mirror settings to save on the key. I bought the X5 used and it has the previous owner's seat settings on the key memory so evertime I lock and unlock the doors, the seat returns to the previous owner's settings.
Since the factory default (If I am reading the key memory configuration correctly) does NOT save the seat and mirror settings, I was hoping there was an easy DIY way to cancel the previous owner's settings. Just me being too cheap right now to pay the dealership to reset the key memories. Hope this clarifies. Thanks. |

yes, you must have the dealer reprogram the key memory functions. Unless you have access to a dealer computer there is no other way. |
Correct me if I am wrong but can't you use the memory switch(either 1,2 or 3) on the left side of the driver seat to reset the position while the key is in the ignition(engine started).

Try this: 1) Move the seat to where you want it. 2) Lock the car with the key remote. 3) Unlock the car with the key remote. 4) The seat should still be in the correct position. 5) Repeat 1 to 4 for all your keys. If your X5 is behaving differently then there might be something wrong with the electronics. |
Thanks for all the replies. The seat is still going back to a predetermined position after I set it for myself... unlock, drive, lock, unlock... I guess I'll need the dealership to look at it. :(
