Rear Wiper MOD
I've searched the forum and have read about the possibility of changing the rear wipers to a more updated wiper look. I think the X3's rear wiper has a more beefed up look like thise in the volvo's and porsche.
Will it be possible to change the rear wipers of the X5 and use the X3's wiper instead? |
1) what year X5 do you have?
2) does the rear wiper arm have the uptodate hook configuration? (vs the straight pin hole config) If you have an early model X5, there is a replacement wiper arm. I posted the part numbers in an earlier thread. about 10 pages back, under "rear wiper replacement" |

Back page 21 (from this posting time) under " '01 X5 sale price" - there are pics of my '01 X5 with the replacement wiper arm
Oh, by the way, I'm not selling either one of my X5s. |

Here is the X5 rear rear wiper arm parts diagram:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/z/h/118.png Here is the X3 rear wiper arm parts diagram: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/h/x/222.png I have not taken my X5 rear wiper off but from what I have seen, it's held on by a nut. I would think that if the X3 wiper arm is held the same way you could swap them out. The main issue then would be the length of the arm from the X3 being long enough for the X5. Good luck! |
Cool mod but it would only be noticeable to the modder...

If you have a look close up at the X3 you'll see that the fitting isnt the same on the X5 and even if you could make it fit with a made up sleeve on the fixing the wiper is way to small it would look pretty daft. |
Hate you tell you this, but that diagram is an early model, not the latest replacement arm - That's what I took off and replaced!
Or BMW has not updated their manual diagrams. |
