Anyone else a tool junkie?
 

I cant choke up the money to buy Snap on for everything so I have a fair amount of craftman and "throw away" tools. I saw these and have to give them a try. I have a serious 1/2 inch air gun that will blast on a nut to 510 foot pouinds so I dont use it to install to ANY bolts, even with the lowest setting it will do 120 foot pounds. I will never go without a torque wrench but I gotta check these out.

Anyone have tools they are less than proud of and are willing to admit it?

Just about all of them that I own fit that description!

i got a set of good tools and a bunch of throw away sets...

in fact, my husky set is about 50% gone already from trying to deal with air blasted nuts.. i just lost a 16mm and 3/8" extension while doing the cv boot repair. but thats what its for, try them first, then resort to the good stuff...

btw, husky from home depot also has a lifetime warranty (since they are made by stanley, the original makers of the craftsman line).

but until you start collecting the special bmw tools, you don't get the title of tool junkie yet ;)

i'm trying to grow my special tools collection too.. LOL

I have ZERO BMW specialty tools, I always find a way to use the generic ones. I’d kill for some BMW specialty tools, but I find it a challenge to do a job without the special tools. Yes it can take me hours or even days longer …

I think I have twisted off at least 10 ½ to 3/8 reducers in my day and at least 5 universals have exploded on me when I hit the air with them. I think I even has a double once, I used the reducer with a universal and exploded both. It's one of those things where I think to myself "lets see if this universal can handle this one " and blam!.... guess not.

I'm not a pro wrench, so my collection is mostly mix and match. My dad had all Craftsman tools, so early on, I inherited his dedication to the brand. I purchased my core set of Craftsman tools in high school, but I've supplemented with a variety of other tools (Husky, Crescent, Snap On), but I've abandoned the Craftsman fetish ever since the neighbor Sears store closed down 10 years ago. My 1/2" Craftsman ratchet finally broke after 30 years of service.

Lately, all my tool purchases have been from Costco (plier sets, needle nose, vice-grips, etc) because of the low cost, but I might start collecting Snap-On tools if I could find a good cheap source (with the emphasis on cheap).

I love HF also! I have tools that go back many years. I brought a good few over when I emmigrated to the US. I have a number I bought for my E-type Jag. and some that belonged to my grand-father in unusual British sizes. They go back to before WWII.
I bought some "kit" when I arrive first. Stupid, cheap, stamped metal, combo wrenches. I mostly use them now for stirring two pack epoxy. Yea they were that cheap!

My father was a machinist so I grew up around a lot of great tools. I have a good set that fills a roll around tool chest and on top a large tool box. Those and my electrical measurement devices and I can take on most automotive maintenence issues that come my way. In addition to my X5, I've got my wife's 500E, my sisters 320is, and my godson's ranger crasher that I manage to keep running.

hmmm cheap source for Craftsman.......EBAY!

I am looking for a source for these "Special BMW Tools" that keep getting referenced in the Bently manual. Any ideas, links would be greatly appreciated. I'm going back to my shop to work on my X5 suspension. Please, anything but the Stealer.
