alarm sensitivity help
 

is there anyway to turn the sensitivity down on the alarm from bmw? my x5 goes off like crazy all the time over nothing. it is getting anoying and i hate going into my pockets as fast as i can to turn it off.:mad:

anyways, anyone know anything on this?

I used to have this same problem. 4 years ago I disconnected the hood sensor and haven't had a single false alarm ever since.

Under the hood near the firewall on the passenger side. Look for a plunger switch that would close when you shut the hood and simply unplug the connector to it. Takes all of 10 seconds to do.

If they want them that bad, the alarm system isn't going to stop them. Once the hood is open it takes a second to cut the alarm siren wire.

And when you hear a car alarm these days what do you do? (a) ingore it, or (b) run over and investigate. 99% of people would answer a, I bet.

hmm, what i did on mine was added some cushion to the sensor here on the hood. It seems like it doesn't have enough wedge to really have that sensor button pushed completly down. After adding this cushion in, i haven't heard my alarm doing the annoying thing anymore. Give it a shot if you like. Does disconnecting this harm any other or is this sensor mainly used for the alarm? Anyone know for a fact?
