selling the X5. $630 a month, plus $88 fill up every week. I make pretty good money, but that's quite a bit for a car I'm in 1.55 hours a day. We already have a RX300 that's pretty luxurious, I was thinking about getting a small commuter, but I also have the E36 I can revive.

What do you guys think? I'm really confused, I really don't want to, but it kinda makes financial sense, but sometimes I think, f*ck it, just gotta do what you wanna do sometimes.. . ugh..

6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other. If you want to sell it because of gas prices and time in the ride, then get a diesel VW as your commuter :)

IMO - I'd keep the X.

Think also that how much you will loose by selling your X and then bying something else, and the moment the car is out of the dealer you have lost only 10% if you're lucky ;)

Gas was already on the upswing when you bought your X5 a couple of months back. What were your reasons back then for purchasing it? Have those reasons changed?

If it were me, if the 325i is in good running condition, I'd use that as the daily driver until it croaks and leave the X5 for weekend use. Unless you have sentimental value attached to your '92 325i, it's not going to have any real appreciable value over a bone stock 325i because of its age.

As nice as your wife's Lexus RX330 might be, it's boring to drive compared to an X5, especially on a interstate trip.

Reasons? None that were logical. Just wanted something new, gas wasn't as bad back then, I didn't foresee it going as high with no end in sight, least that was my hope :)

The 325 needs some work but it can handle the job. And yes, it does have sentimental value.

What about sharing a ride 2x a week? Drive solo 3x a week, give a ride 1x and be a passenger 1x a week. I predict craigslist will soon become rideshare central.

See I thought about that, but I'm the only one that lives in Edmond that works where I work, I work for a Tribe that resides about 45 minutes West of Edmond. Plus I'm a manager (yeah yeah, I know, scary eh?), so I think that's kinda weird.

The $ question is always a big one. If I had understood my tax situation better, I most likely would not have bought a new X5 for my east coast car. If push comes to shove, ... Yeah, one of my X5s would go. Furnishing my new townhouse maybe a long drawn out affair. I only have myself to worry about, so a tight budget affects no one else.

Part of my reasoning to (possibly) give up an X5, is the future buy of the diesel X5 when it becomes available here in the USA. Just because you give it up today, does not mean you won't be back in the future. You can always put some of the $ you save toward that.
