I have posted before that I have been up against a Turbo many many times as my partner owns one. Its actually alot closer than many of you think. Straight line is the only time the Cayenne has an advantage. Before I start let me say that my partner is an ex-professional race car driver and normally scares the hell out of me when I am a passenger in his Cayenne so he is not shy to push his Turbo. From a dead stop I leap to about a 1/2 car lead up to about 30 MPH. He then starts to pull past me to about 100-105 MPH. then its almost pretty dead even from there. Now handling. We both agree that the 4.8is is alot more at home in the corners. From turn in, drift and exit it absolutely shines in its tracking and stability. Braking as well. the brakes are tremendous. He is looking for a diffrent ride since he feels humiliated that his Cayenne is not up to par with the 4.8is. He would love a 4.8 but since I have one he likes to be diffrent. Now he is waiting for the new Cayenne which is redesigned and more HP Cayenne. We will what happens. I have emails and calls out to ESS and Kellners for a supercharger. That is the next thing I do so that straight line performance will not be undistuted with Turbo.
I have owned alot of very fast cars and the 4.8is is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure to park in my garage. |
when is the new cayenne due out?
i had no clue the 4.8 is so close to the turbo. Is that true about the new range rover sport? it wont be able to compete with the x5? |

the range does 7.2seconds 0-100km/h while the x5 does 6.0 or 5.9 i got that info from the topgear magazine if u have the last topgear magazine they did a test between the rr sport and the 4.8is and the caynne tt and the test was in the desert in my country |
oh yah how does the 4.8 stand against the 540 2003 model

Actually, Ferraii does make a SUV. My parents neighbor has one. Its similar to a Range Rover just a lot nicer and more expensive to work on. I am not sure where they guy got it but he is made of money. |
Might I also add, Lamborghini made one of the coolest SUV's ever.
The LM002 ... I wish I had one of those in the garage.. |
I had some fun against a Cayenne Turbo in Italy last year. We both went hard at it over the very twisty and bumpy Italian Autostradas and drove for around 30 miles at speeds of between 100 and 140 mph. There was really nothing in it. When he was in front and accelerated I could stay with him and when I was in front and accelerated he didn't close on me. Some of this can be down to driver ability (I've many years of competition behind me and I've no idea how comforatable he was going quickly) but he was obviously trying hard.
Subsequently I've had similar incursions with a Cayenne S and I pulled well away from him above 100. From a power/weight perspective the 4.8is sits right in the middle of the two V8 Cayennes, but the X5s power delivery is more immediate than either so I suspect that's why I gave the Cayenne TT such a hard time. The reality (at sensible speeds) is that the Turbo's additional torque and horsepower provide a modest advantage over the 4.8is that might amount to a few car lengths. |
